Poetry: Lies

Lies

A lie starts so small and innocent,
but has the power to shape nations
to crumble otherwise stable foundations
to end that which you spent a lifetime building.

Your little lies cascaded into a waterfall
the deluge eroding the love we shared
My heart hardened by the flood of pain
Not able to believe in what you say.

You want me to forgive you and move on.
Forgiveness, when you aren't even sorry?
I will be moving on, without you.
Wary the next time pretty words spill from pretty lips.
